Getting Started

Here are the instructions for shipping Sell Orders. If you are looking to sell precious metal scrap that may be significantly contaminated with organic matter i.e. Dental Scrap or metals that may have come into contact with potentially hazardous chemical compounds, please check our “other” shipping instruction sections on this page for additional information.

  • To start your order, sign into your account and go to the “Sell Coins” or “Sell Jewelry” etc. option in the banner at the top of the page, and then click the “Start MY Sell Order” tab. If you are looking to sell something that contains precious metal but you do not see an option, please give us a call or email us @.
  • To start to your sell order, select a shipping method from the dropdown menu and enter a brief summary of what you are looking to sell. Toronto Metal Exchange will ship you a postage paid, fully tracked and insured package so that you know where your shipment is – right until the second you get paid.
  • Before going to checkout and finalizing your order, please double check what you have entered the correct address, and have included a list of all the items you are looking to sell. This will give us an estimate of what type of Shipping Box is required to securely transport your items.
  • Once you have checked your Sell Order and verified its contents, click “Checkout” and complete the checkout process as directed. Toronto Metal Exchange will send you a quote with a complete report for you to review before we finalize your order to see what grades and what total you will be receiving for each item. There is no commitment to sell. You have the right to cancel the sell the order at any time. If you wish for us to send back any particular items, please please give us a call or send us an email. If we do not receive a confirmation that you have accepted our offer, all sell orders will be held for maximum of 7 business days before we move forward with the sell order and finalize a payment via the chosen option.

HOW TO PACK YOUR ITEMS

This section is regarding packaging small and large collections and product orders. Bulk orders are packaged slightly differently and are notated in the Selling Bulk section.

  • Please ensure that you include your name and order number on the order slip included with your package. Once you finish packing the order, write the order number on the outside of the package for our team to process your order as quickly as possible.
  • We encourage that you include all and any items from our want list. If you forget to include the Order # on the package, your payment will take longer than expected, or it may be canceled and returned to you to be sent back in as a new order.
  • Remove bulk constitutional coins below a grading of (VG 8) from any sleeves, binders, or any kind of non-standard issue packaging. We understand wanting to sleeve coins to protect them, although excess packaging does slow down the grading process. We highly encourage that if you are selling high-end numismatic coins, that you want to provide extra protections for items such as these.
  • Please avoid using rubber bands or tape or any other containers that may damage your items
  • Ensure that the Sell Order is packed securely and will not shift or fall out during transit.  Try to have as little open space in the package as possible. Paper, newspapers, and bubble wrap are great packing materials that are suggested by most shipping companies.
  • When packaging and securing your Sell Order, we always encourage that you use an excessive amount of tape in order to prevent the shipment from being opened or damaged during transport.
  • Toronto Metal Exchange is unable to pay for orders that we do not receive, so unfortunately if you order is lost in the mail we cannot complete the sell order.  Orders must be shipped out and postmarked within 7 days of creating the order.

Sell Order Processing Timeline

This section will explain the evaluation process, the approximate timeline of a sell order, and how your payment will be totaled and issued to you.

  • Once your order has been received by our team, we will verify its contents and update the status of your order within 24 hours. You should see a notification from your shipping company before you see a change in the status to your sell order. We go through a considerable amount of mail every day, so once your package is delivered to us, it may be a few hours before we are able to open the package and extract your order information to confirm that it has been “received.”
  • Once your Sell Order had been received, and your order will be graded and finalized in with 12 to 24 hours, depending on how many orders we have at that time.
  • Once your order is evaluated and payout amount is finalized via email or telephone, your payment will be issued. PayPal and Store Credit payments are issued within 12-24 hours of the order being finalized. Check payments will be issued through TD Bank; Cheques are cut within two business days and is shipped to you on the same day. Check delivery generally takes 3-5 business days, depending on where you live in Ontario, but it can take up to 2 weeks.
  • Toronto Metal Exchange is unable to pay for articles not received by our Grading Department, even if they appear on the invoice. If an inauthentic or undesirable article is included in your sell order shipment for any reason, we cannot offer cash or store credit for the item and we will promptly return any such items.  Please make sure that your invoice correctly reflects what is in your sell order.
